The Hug of dark is Jarmo Salo's third movie. With her wife they have made 5 hours 22 minuts long trilogy. Every film is independent, but a few characters continue their living.

They started filming 2015 a year after they met first in a dating sites in the internet. Jarmo had a mark in culture and Kyllikki noticed him because of that mark.

Their first movie The Visiting was completed in the end of 2016. Next The Illusion was completed in July 2022 together with The Hug Of Dark - Vestige.

They financed themselves The Visiting and The Illusion 11 000£ each. To save money they had only one camera except one scene in the end of The Illusion. Almost all shooting equipments exist already when they started shooting The Hug of Dark. Last one costed only 3000£.

Sound techinian Lassi Tiainen was involved in all three movies. He was paid. No-one else got anything (so far hopefully).

Synopsis

In a small countryside village lives a couple.  They have a tiny theather, fleemarket and dreams. Tarmo is a good director and his wife Kyllikki desires to sing and write. But it wouldn't be life without challenges.

Lonely Janne comes to overnight to Kyllikki and Tarmo's inn. Kyllikki asks Janne to their new play.

 Kyllikki sister Ritva helps Kyllikki time to time. Ritva is frustrated with her drug addict daughter Tuuli.

Starts a story with true drama in theater, passion, love and  jealousy. Who is quilty? Who is not?

Director Statement

I thank you for the opportunity to get our true indiefilm to be seen. Me and my wife Kyllikki have done almost all work by ourselves: Kyllikki's acting, composing, singing, the story itself, shooting, costumes and my screenplay, dramaturgy, directing, acting, shooting, lights, sounds, editing, colortunings.
This movie is our third. So, it's our third child also as you can understand it if you watch the movie.
Kyllikki has published a book in real life too as in this movie. The book explains human behavior. No-one hasn't done that before. So this little budget indiefilm tells a giant story to be catched.
